Introduction
Asphalt roofing felt is designed as an underlayment product to be applied over the roof deck prior to the installation of asphalt shingles. It acts as a secondary barrier to moisture caused by wind-driven rain and ice damming. This heavy-weight asphalt roofing felt is made of a specially formulated organic sheet which has been fully saturated with waterproofing asphalt.
This product is flexible and impervious to water penetration but allows water vapor to pass through at a restricted rate. It is preconditioned to help it lay flat and remain stable after installation on a roof deck.
Features and Benefits
Asphalt saturated organic felts require protection from damage and the weather. Store rolls upright in a dry location and never install when wet or over a wet roof deck.

Asphalt roofing felt can be used as roof underlayment beneath asphalt shingles, wood shakes, tiles, and other slope coverings. It functions to restrict vapor movement from the wood deck and attic to the underside of the shingles, preventing condensation and acting as a barrier to wind-driven moisture.
